Skoda India launched its newest horse from the stable after record breaking bookings of its base variant Skoda Rapid Rider costing Rs.7.49 lacs ex-showroom as Skoda Rapid Rider Plus priced at Rs.7.99 lacs. Some weeks ago, Skoda stopped fresh bookings for Rapid Rider because of excess order than anticipated by Skoda. They expect to complete the deliveries till September 2020.

What is different in Rider Plus variant from Rider?

Boasting the same powerful 1.0-lit. BS6 3-cylinder, turbo charged petrol engine producing 108.62 Bhp @ 5,000-5,250 rpm and 175 Nm @ 1,750-4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission giving a decent fuel economy of 18.97 kmpl. The car is expected to get an automatic transmission, which could be launched in September 2020.

So, what do you get for the extra Rs 50,000? As you might have guessed, the difference between the two variants is in their list of features. The Rider Plus receives the addition of a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, some window chrome garnish and trunk lip garnish, that’s about it. The obvious question – isn’t the price difference a bit too steep for just two added features? Yes, it is. You’re better off taking the entry-level variant (Rider) and spend the difference buying aftermarket stuff. The remainder of features are in line with the base Rider, and include kit like auto climate control, tilt and telescopic adjust steering, remote locking, rear AC vents, rear-center armrest, rear parking sensors, ABS, dual front airbags and more.

 

The above recommendation holds for those who don’t mind buying the Rapid in Candy White or Carbon Steel shades. Those who want additional color options – Brilliant Silver or Toffee Brown – will have to settle for the Rider Plus variant.

The Rapid is available in five variants - Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo.
